As Part of World AIDS Day 2017, the Center for the Evaluation of Value and Risk in Health (CEVR) has compiled specific HIV/AIDS insights from our Global Health Cost-Effectiveness (GH CEA) Registry, which included 73 cost-effectiveness analyses, 358 cost-effectiveness ratios, and 32 cost-saving ratios in the database.

Particular HIV/AIDS-related insights from our database are:

  • Antiretroviral treatment (ART) for HIV-positive individuals can be a cost-saving intervention for treating HIV/AIDS in South Africa, Nigeria, Uganda and India
  • Uganda has the most HIV/AIDS cost-per-DALY studies within the GH CEA registry compared to all other African countries
  • Nigeria has the 8th most HIV/AIDS cost-per-DALY studies in the entire world per the GH CEA Registry
  • South Africa has the most HIV/AIDS cost-effectiveness ratios of African countries studied within the GH CEA registry
  • HIV/AIDS is understudied in South Africa based on the proportion of total disease burden per cost-per-DALY study compared to HIV burden cost-per-DALY per study
  • HIV self-testing can be a cost-saving intervention in Zimbabwe: a country with the sixth most HIV burden per 100,000 individuals
  • Lesotho has one of the highest HIV burden per 100,000 individuals, yet has only 6 relevant cost-per-DALY articles examining HIV

We encourage everyone to explore our registry and dive deeper into the cost-per-DALY literature. For more information, support, or questions about the Tufts Medical Center CEVR GH CEA Registry please reach out directly to ghcearegistry@tuftsmedicalcenter.org.

*Burden is measured in disability-adjusted life year (DALY)
